Brooksville, Fla. In response to Hurricane Ian, the Florida Department of Health in Hernando County is preparing for special needs shelter operations beginning at the Challenger K8 Science and Math School. 13400 Elgin Blvd, Spring Hill, FL 34609.

If you know or care for a person with a disability or special needs, for example, who needs help but is not hospitalized, it is important that you register first. Florida Special Needs Shelter Registry.

The Florida Special Needs Registry registers those in need of services with your local Office of Emergency Management, so they can help you in an emergency.

In an emergency, such as evacuating for a hurricane, you may need to go to a special needs shelter. By registering through Florida Special Needs Shelter RegistryLocal emergency management officials will provide you with useful information about evacuation and shelter options available to you.

If you qualify for special needs accommodation Your kit It should include the following:

  • List of medicines and dosage
  • 30 day supply of medicine
  • essential medical equipment for people dependent on electricity or oxygen;
  • Backup power sources for important medical equipment
  • Any special appetite or food
  • Personal Information Photo ID, insurance card, emergency contacts and contact information for your primary care provider

After completing the Florida Special Needs Registry, your local emergency management agency will provide additional information about evacuation and shelter options available to you.
