Health inspectors ordered a halt to the sale of pickles and ice because of a non-functioning sink

Saint Anthony – A recent health inspection revealed a store with a rat problem, a Mexican restaurant where employees don’t wash their hands, and a popular chicken chain in need of cleaning.

Although the three businesses achieved results in the 80s, they still had several serious health problems that needed attention.

Express Mart #2, located in the 1900 block of Southwest 19th Street, received an 80 on their most recent health inspection.

According to a Metro health inspector’s report, the ice machine produced black mold-like debris.

Because it did not have a hand sink that was removed, the inspector told the facility to stop selling pickles and ice packs on site until the sink was reinstalled.

The piping on the ice machine had to be modified to meet local health regulations.

Another sink had dark, moldy debris and lots of flies buzzing around.

Rat droppings observed in walk-in cooler. The inspector ordered the business to clean up rubbish bins, remove damaged bags and provide a locked back room.

A re-examination was ordered.

Herradero Mexican Restaurant

Herradero Mexican Restaurant in the 5800 block of South Flores earned an 82.

The inspector did not observe any employees washing their hands during the inspection. He also observed an employee handling cooked bacon and placing it on a plate without washing their hands or wearing gloves.

A metal rack used to store clean plates is contaminated with dust and rust.

Seven violations were corrected during the inspection, but a re-inspection was ordered because several certificates needed to be obtained or renewed.

Church fried chicken

The Church’s Grilled Chicken, located on the corner of Culebra and Gallum, earned an 84.

The inspector said packages of raw chicken were improperly thawed in a stagnant water tank.

The supervisor observed the worker changing jobs, removing dirty gloves and putting on clean gloves without washing their hands.

The ventilation filters on the cookers are clogged with excess oil, grease and food debris. The staff had no idea when the filters had been changed.

There was also a lot of trash and food debris in the business that needed to be cleaned up, and the floors needed to be thoroughly cleaned and sanitized, the report said.

A re-examination was ordered.
