Fashion Month returns to New York in a big way, with five-and-a-half days of in-person runway shows featuring Gabriela Hearst, Prabal Gurung, Laquan Smith, Colina Strada and Batsheva at iconic venues around the city.

Carolina Herrera’s creative director Wes Gordon showed a collection of rich florals inspired by “The Secret Garden” at The Plaza Hotel in Manhattan, while designer Victor Glimaud presented sweaters on rockerskating models on the iconic stage of Rockefeller Center. Jason Wu’s collection — an aesthetic in beautiful dresses and digital prints — showcased the East River at Pier 17 overlooking the South Street Seaport, and Ulla Johnson dominated the Brooklyn Museum’s Court of Beaux Arts.

Tommy Hilfiger, on the other hand, collaborated with British designer Richard Quinn on the Brooklyn waterfront with New York’s high street for a timeless take on classic Americana. The show, a tribute to another former city icon — Andy Warhol’s Factory Studio — was an A-list affair, with Kris Jenner, Kourtney Kardashian, Travis Barker, John Legend and Kate Moss in attendance, with daughter Lila looking on as Moss walked the runway. Barker finally joined the stage for a drumming performance during the models’ final line-up.

Gabriella Hearst hosted a rousing live performance by the Resistance Revival Chorus at the Brooklyn Navy Yard’s airy warehouse show, performing on an all-white-and-gold runway. The collection was inspired by the ancient Greek poet Sappho, and black, white and gold dominated the presentation with alternating fiery motifs with pops of red and yellow.

Proenza Schouler set the tone of the week at the show on Friday, with edgy yet tailored summer looks with fringes, off-the-shoulder details and fabrics. The musical Arca opened with Kendall Jenner, Bella Hadid and Anok Yai also walking the runway.

On Saturday, Julia Fox, Lola Leone, Precious Lee, Winnie Harlow and Harry Neff joined Leila Moss in modeling the Tommy Hilfiger show; Harlow was among Sergio Hudson’s star-studded model lineup, which also featured Chanel Iman, Veronica Webb and Aoki Lee Simmons, among others. Ella Mhoff walked in Prabal Gurung’s Panchi show, while Lil Nas X walked the runway in Coach – as the brand’s new ambassador – in a black leather vest and jelly shoes.

Another celebrity surprise took place at the Naeem Khan show, with Kate Beckinsale ensconced in a glittering two-piece ensemble.

New York is back

This New York Fashion Week was a triumphant return for many after February’s shows were frozen to a microcosm by Covid-19, with last-minute cancellations from major shows like Tom Ford and many labels switching to digital presentations.

“I feel like we’re back – New York is back,” designer Laquan Smith told CNN Style just after his show at Intrepid Airline, where onlookers looked up at the models as they walked the runway in draping gowns and daring streetwear cuts. . “As a native New Yorker, I remember sneaking into New York Fashion Week meant I wasn’t invited. So it’s an honor to just be on the calendar and have buyers, stylists and influencers come to see what Laquan Smith has to say. Means.” Among the participants were Cassie, Lala Anthony and Jamaican dancehall queen Spice.

Physical with digital touch

Despite the return to primarily in-person shows, the digital influence of the past two-plus years appears to be here to stay.
