The hype for the upcoming live-action movie “The Little Mermaid” didn’t go unnoticed in Milan. Just as some designers subtly hinted at sea creatures in their collections, so did makeup artists and hair stylists, but in different ways.
After all, who saw a mermaid? By Bluemarine, Inge Grognard and Anthony Turner for a quick – and easy to repeat – interpretation, the former covering faces and bodies with subtle glitter and the latter with long, wavy, braided braids here and there as well.
At No. 21, Turner added a few sparkles to the proceedings, taking models down the runway to add more sensual and down-to-earth sirens rather than mythic figures with frizzy hair. At Luisa Beccaria, small stones and metal rings were worked into the hair, so the side-parted bangs got little surprises.
Ariel heads appeared by Marco Rambaldi, blue hairpins were highlighted by Diesel and Bluemarine. The aquatic theme took an all-blue yet essential turn in bold, glossy lips by Dsquared2 and Etro. GCDS had siren eyes turned blue, while at Versace, gothic makeup had touches Ursula would slay.
Elsewhere, metallic influences and sparkles ruled the roost, from silver eyes at Jil Sander to glittery eyes at Andre Damo. Maybe they don’t need mermaids, but for the party animals on Earth, the idea of turning dark circles into a work of beauty comes like a siren song.
