BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – The Louisiana Department of Health is making changes to how it releases information about Covid-19 cases.

As of Wednesday, October 19, Louisiana health officials will only report new case numbers;
Hospitalization, and death once a week. Those new numbers are released every Wednesday by the Louisiana Department of Health Covid-19 dashboard.

Health officials said the change comes as Louisiana enters another phase of the outbreak. He added that many other states have shifted to weekly releases in quantitative numbers.

The Louisiana Department of Health reported 227 new cases in the state as of Thursday, October 13. They also said 173 were in hospital battling the virus and six more people had died. Health officials say most new cases come from community transmission rather than clustering.

In Louisiana, more than 18,000 people have died from Covid-19 since the outbreak began. The virus has become the third leading cause of death in the state since 2020.
