.Harrisburg, PA – Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry (L&I) Secretary Jennifer Berrier announced today that the department is accepting applications. PennSERVE’s 2023-24 AmeriCorps A grant competition that supports community service projects throughout Pennsylvania and provides opportunities for AmeriCorps members to build job skills and serve their communities. This is also the first year that PenSERVE grants are available. Public health AmeriCorps programs With funding from the America’s Savings Plan Act.
“The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the importance of increasing public health resources across the country and supporting the recruitment, training and development of the next generation of public health leaders,” said Secretary Berrier. “This effort is consistent with the Wolf administration’s commitment to investing in a future workforce that will be ready to respond to the public health needs of our local communities.”
PennSERVE, located in L&I, is the Pennsylvania grantmaking partner of AmeriCorps, connecting individuals with organizations through service and volunteerism in key focus areas including economic opportunity, education, disaster preparedness, environmental protection, healthy futures and veterans and military service families.
Public Health AmeriCorps State Grants
This year marks the first time that PennService’s AmeriCorps program has provided service to public health AmeriCorps programs.
AmeriCorps and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are partnering to launch Public Health AmeriCorps, which aims to address the public health needs of local communities by providing state and local public health care grants and promoting more equitable health outcomes for underserved communities.
If selected by PenSERVE, applications are submitted to the federal AmeriCorps agency and compete against other single-state and multi-state applicants.
AmeriCorps State Program Grants
PennSERVE AmeriCorps State Program grants are also available for AmeriCorps programs. Program grants allow organizations to recruit and support AmeriCorps members as they address unmet community needs.
The PennSERVE 2023-24 AmeriCorps Grant Competition includes two opportunities to apply for fall and spring funding, with grant periods beginning in July/August 2023.
Fall Fund – Program Operating Grants Only: If selected by PennSERVE, applications are submitted to the federal AmeriCorps agency to compete with other single-state and multi-state applicants.
Spring Funding – Program Operating Grants and Planning Grants: Applicants compete at the regional level. An agency not funded in the fall competition may be considered for funding in the fall grant competition. PennSERVE expects to release applications for spring funding no later than January 2023.
