Simsbury, Conn. (WFSB) – In the wake of Queen Elizabeth’s death, reactions are pouring in, including from local businesses with ties to England.

Channel 3 spoke to the owners of “One Spoon of Britain” in Simsbury, who expressed their sadness at the news.

The phones have been buzzing all day with people sharing their condolences.

Many people were also coming to the store today.

“Britain’s Spoon” just opened on Railway Street in Simsbury in June.

The store sells British groceries, home decor and gifts.

The store’s co-owners, Carly and Natalie, are both from England.

They say it was very sad to hear the news that Queen Elizabeth II had passed away.

Under the British monarchy, Charles became king immediately after the queen’s death.

“It’s huge. It would definitely be weird to have a king instead of a queen because that’s all they know,” says Natalie Brown, co-owner. “She just seems down to earth. She came across as more normal than most people in the light. She was big, iconic and played a big role.

You know we heard the news this morning, she was definitely very ill, but it was still very sad. I cried a little. He was very sad. It’s just the end of an era for our country and our common wealth,” said co-owner Carly Kidd.

Customers were entering the store today buying tea.

They say they are drinking tea in honor of the Queen.

The owners say they are open all week if people want to stop by.
