NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) – At Church of the Messiah, practice is key in the days leading up to Sunday. And no, we’re not just talking about choirs.

Three local Baptist congregations came together this week to host a three-day community health clinic.

“We got an HIV test, a covid test,” said Brian Williams, pastor of the Church of Christ.

They offer everything from covid vaccinations and screenings, vision screenings and dental cleanings that don’t even require anesthesia.

“And I haven’t brushed my teeth for a long time, because I can’t afford toothpaste,” said one participant.

“One time to shop, man, one time to shop,” Pastor Williams said.

All are provided at no cost to the patient.

Another participant, Paul Sharp, said, “This is very important for the elderly who cannot afford what they need.”

For Sharp, having free medical resources is truly a godsend.

“I see pretty well, but I’m a lot blurry on one side,” Sharpe said.

But after a few minutes of sitting in the chair, they were able to adjust the viewing order.

“It means a lot to know that someone cares, to go out and spend their volunteer time caring for other people,” Sharpe said.

That is why the Church of Christ has made this service a key part of its mission.

“Low income, a lot of poverty – so, because we’re in this community, we feel it’s our responsibility as a church to serve this community as best we can,” Pastor Williams said.

Because it is important for them to practice what they preach in addition to a small soul on Sunday.

This is the clinic’s first year back after Covid-19. All in all, it was the 18th year of Christ that she hosted the three-day event.
