Marc Jacobs uses AI, ChatGPT for NYC fashion show

It was over in a New York minute — or three.

The Marc Jacobs Fall 2023 runway show took over the New York Public Library for the third consecutive year on Monday, offering 29 looks of creativity and sophistication in three minutes flat.

Despite the historic punctuality of the catwalks, this one – which started at 7.30pm and ended at 7.33pm – was too short to catch a Tik Tok clip and test the goldfish’s attention-grabbing theory.

In keeping with the progressive and agile show, the fashion house used OpenAI’s ChatGPT to create the show’s memorabilia, patting itself on the back for its “innovative approach to fusing menswear-inspired tailoring with feminine aesthetics.

Generative AI has been praised and condemned by users and experts alike.

While some have used the smart chatbot to write wedding vows, Tinder messages and resignation letters, even the software’s creator has warned of potentially harmful capabilities.

Advanced technology continues to evolve the world of fashion, giving way to innovation and more opportunities.

In addition to enlisting the help of Marc Jacobs’ prolific chatbot, Japanese label Anrealage used photochromatic inks activated by ultraviolet lights to transform its Fall/Winter 2023 line from stark white pieces to a vibrant collection of pastels and patterns.

And in April, designers created completely virtual collections that were presented in spectacular settings during I Fashion Week.

The Marc Jacobs ready-to-wear collection was an innovation in itself.

Despite the glitz and glamor of the runway, the tailored women’s clothing walked the fine line between elegance, strength, off-the-shoulder coverage and sexiness.

The collection boosted confidence as it “embraced the female form,” read part of the show’s notes.

Men’s silhouettes were flirted with feminine flair – wide, exaggerated silhouettes paired with leather-clad hot shorts, miniskirts and peekaboo bras.

The latter, an elegant, deliberate fashion malfunction, is part of the bra-wearing trend that has been on the rise of late.

Sidney Sweeney rocked blue Miu Miu underwear under a white shift at the Cannes Film Festival in May, while Scarlett Johansson flashed a strapless bar in Barbie pink on a bejeweled balcony.
