Marshalltown is acquiring Long Beach, Calif.-based Wall-Board Equipment, adding more than 100 jobs to its Fayetteville locations. Financial terms were not disclosed. Marshalltown said about 200 total jobs will be added through the deal, most of them in Fayetteville.
Jack Murders, vice president of the Marshalltown, Arkansas facility, said Wall-Board Equipment has been a competitor for more than 75 years. The acquisition will enable Marshalltown to offer its customers the widest range of drywall equipment in the world, he said. The deal adds nearly 300 products to Marshalltown’s product catalog. Marshalltown will consolidate Wall-Board’s manufacturing and distribution operations in the Fayetteville and Marshalltown, Iowa locations.
The Fayetteville facility will employ about 500 people at two locations in the city’s industrial business district, Killings said. Marshalltown hired more than two dozen employees to prepare for the acquisition, which closed on Sept. 30.
“Our starting pay is $20 an hour, and we’ve recently hired a lot of new people who have moved into the area. We hire through hiring events and use temporary workers, many of whom will become full-time workers. We’ve really had no trouble filling our positions. Due to the large layoffs, some other positions in the company Killings said, “We are filling positions.”
None of Wall-Board’s management is expected to stay, but the brand will remain with Marshalltown, he said.
“With this acquisition, we will be adding between 10 and 15 product lines and operations such as line manufacturing, shipping, distribution, management, engineering and maintenance. We have acquired some inventory from Wall-Board and we are already doing some local manufacturing and we are bringing those products from a few They said we will start shipping after a few days.
He said it will take time to ramp up production, but Wall-Board customers will be accommodated. Killings said both Fayetteville plants are operating at capacity, which is why the company is breaking ground on a 50,000-square-foot expansion at its Armstrong Street facility in October. He said the Industrial Street plant will get a raise in 2023.
Wall-Board is the largest deal in the Marshalltown, Iowa-based company’s history and is expected to open up new lines of business in the construction and drywall business. Killings said Marshalltown’s business remains strong despite ongoing supply chain challenges and rising inflation.
“We serve the commercial and residential construction industries and there continues to be demand there. We are very aware of the economic slowdown and have performed very well in past recessions. We have a small business serving from Asia, including China, and it continues to be challenging, but US supply chain issues are also problematic,” he said. .
He said that although there has been a slight slowdown in the demand for residential buildings, the demand for redevelopment is still high. Killings said rising material prices have put some projects on hold and no one knows how the economy will fare in 2023.
“We are excited to grow our business and bring strong brand recognition to Wall-Board Tools. We will manage any downturn in the economy and continue to serve our customers with the tools they need,” Killing said.
