NORTH ADAMS – Eunice Uhm, Mariah Hepworth, Omotara Adeeko, Carter J. Carter, Darren Johnson, Amy Shapiro and Kara Corlew have joined the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts faculty for the current academic year.
Uhm joins the College’s Department of Fine and Performing Arts as Assistant Professor of Art History and Museum Studies. She works on modern and contemporary art with an international focus on the Americas and East Asia. She earned a doctorate in art history from The Ohio State University and completed her postdoctoral studies at Kalamazoo College of the Arts and Kalamazoo College.
Hepworth joined the Department of History and Political Science. Suma Cum Laude graduated from Seattle University with departmental honors, and earned a master’s degree and doctorate from Northwestern University.
Adecco joins the Department of Mathematics as Assistant Professor of Economics. She received her bachelor’s degree from Redeemer University in Nigeria in 2011, her master’s degree in economics in 2014 and her doctorate in economics from Southern Illinois University Carbondale in 2021.
Carter joins the Department of Psychology as Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychology. He has a bachelor’s degree from New York University; Master’s Degree in Social Work from Simon University School of Social Work; Certificate in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy from the Massachusetts Institute of Psychiatry; and a doctorate from Smith College School of Social Work.
Johnson is a professor of journalism and editor of The Beacon Newspaper and joins the English/Communications Department of WJJW, MCLA’s radio station. He recently taught journalism courses at the University at Albany, managed student newspapers in the State University of New York system, and launched an independent student newspaper in the New York metro area called Campus News. A former New York Press Association Writer of the Year, Johnson holds a master’s degree in writing and literature from Long Island University’s Southampton College.
Shapiro joins the business department after teaching as an assistant professor of marketing for the past four years contributing to entrepreneurship research. After receiving her master’s degree in business administration from the Eisenberg School of Management at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, she served as director of business development at the Franklin County Community Development Corporation, developing and growing a business assistance program that supports hundreds of business owners.
Corlew joins the biology department as an assistant professor of health sciences. A radiology technician, she earned a bachelor’s degree in radiologic science from MCLA and served more than 12 years in the Army Reserves. Most recently, she worked as a full-time radiology technologist for Carlos Otis Clinic-Stratton Mountain Urgent Care and also in diagnostic imaging at Rutland Regional Medical Center.
