MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) – The Michigan Tech women’s soccer team fell to Ferris State 1-0 on Sunday afternoon at Kerley Stadium.

The Huskies lost to the Bulldogs 12-9, even though both teams had just three shots on goal.

“Every match is tough in the GLIAC,” said head coach Turk Ozturk. “It’s still early in the season, unfortunately we didn’t get the results today, Ferris did a great job and they stepped up after scoring.

After starting the contest with an offensive rush, the tide turned to the Huskies as the Bulldogs began to find an offensive rhythm. In the 40th minute, Nicky May scored the game-winner on a cross from teammate Isabella Zamborini.

Both teams continued their physical play in the second half, but the backline of both teams left them with few attacking opportunities.

Less than a minute later, the Huskies had their best chance to score, a lead by Alicia Shatrau in front of the box that was deflected late by Bulldogs goalie Lauren Kubaki.

Of note, the Black and Gold held a 6-4 edge in corner kicks and earned three in the half. Senior midfielder Stephanie Yeager scored two of the Huskies’ three goals. One of Yeager’s shots came off a free kick and the Bulldogs’ goalie put the ball out of harm’s way and over the goal.

The Huskies begin a three-game road trip next Friday with a trip to Davenport before facing Grand Valley State on Sunday. The contest at Davenport is scheduled for 4 p.m., while the game against Grand Valley State is scheduled for noon. The Black and Gold return to the road on Friday, September 30 against Northern Michigan in Marquette at noon.
