Omaha, Neb. (WOWT) – Andrea Rae talks about her desire to help others.
As a small business owner herself, she knows how difficult it can be to get started.
“As a woman, I get a lot of no. I came back with so many things, it was so hard. I really needed a small, retail space and a kitchen space, and it was really hard to find and create and finance and do. If I could reach out to other women and ask them if they needed something along these lines, it would be amazing,” says Ray.
That’s how her company was born.
“The whole idea was to be able to help other women start their business, grow their business, or at least come and grow,” says Rae.
It’s a one-stop shop north of 153rd and Q. The cooperative includes 44 local women-owned businesses. Since the December opening, Ray said business has been booming.
“They’re the best of the best. Non-toxic candles, room sprays, body care; we have a lot of bakers, everything from macarons to cakes to cookies, toffee, a clothing line, an earring maker, Playdoh, screen printing… fill a basket with something from everyone and the best.” You can get a gift. For anyone,” says Rai.
According to Jess Rich, owner of Fancy Be, it allows working moms. To maintain their full-time job and express themselves creatively.
“This is something I really enjoy doing, it’s my passion so I heard about what Andrea was doing here and I met her and it was a great opportunity,” says Rich.
“Some of the girls are here full time so they work in the back. It is very good energy. They’re baking, people are coming in and we’re excited to share,” says Ray.
And positioned above each product category, customers can see exactly who they’re supporting.
“You’re the one who started this, right? Everyone has a story. It’s none of my business anymore, none of my business, it’s everybody’s. So sharing her story can be very inspiring for me and all of them. So when people come in, what I want them to connect with is their story,” says Ray.
The owner tells us she plans to expand into more women-owned businesses beyond bakeries and retailers.
On Sundays, business owners are allowed to host their own private events. Her company is organizing a bridal event this Sunday from 11 am to 3 pm.
