Mon Health System, part of Vandalia Health, announced today that it has approved the construction of a small format hospital in Bridgeport to serve the greater Harrison County community. The approval came from the West Virginia Health Care Authority in response to a July 2022 Certificate of Interest.
Small format hospitals are accredited by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to provide hospital-based inpatient and outpatient medical beds, diagnostic imaging and laboratory services, and full-service emergency services. Hospitals.
The approved plan acknowledges the need for timely scalable rural health care investments needed in West Virginia. Mon Health Harrison Neighborhood Hospital will have 10 inpatient beds, eight emergency beds.

Ed Boyle, chairman of the board of directors of the Mon Health System, said the health system’s leadership is excited to begin construction of the small format hospital. The idea is “right size” for many of our communities across the state, especially those in North Central West Virginia. The hospital will be the second of its kind in the Mon Health system, with Mon Health Marion Neighborhood Hospital opening in White Hall in December 2021.
“Access in the home is a key component of quality care and Mon Health System and the locally based Community Volunteer Board are excited to bring this innovation to our state,” said Boyle. “Thank you to the governor, federal, state and local delegations for their support and vision.”
The new hospital is a nearly 20,000-square-foot, one-story facility located in Charles Pointe Bridgeport and close to the new Bridge Sports Complex and the North Central West Virginia Airport.
