ST. george – Lexie Brown has been named head coach of the Utah Tech women’s soccer program, Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Ken Bezer announced Monday.
“We are thrilled to announce the appointment of Lexie Brown as the new women’s soccer coach and to welcome her and her family to Utah Tech University,” Bezer said in a news release. “Lexi brings a proven record of NCAA Division I success and demonstrates a passion for developing student-athletes.”
Brown comes to St. George as the program’s recruiting coordinator after spending the past five seasons as an assistant women’s soccer coach at Gonzaga University.
“I am excited about the opportunity to represent Utah Tech University as the head women’s soccer coach,” Brown said in a news release. “This is the perfect opportunity for me and my family and we are thrilled to be a part of the Trailblazer family.
“I want to thank Ken Beezer for his investment in this program and for offering me this amazing opportunity. The future is bright for Utah Tech University and the women’s soccer program, and I can’t wait to begin the journey of working with such an amazing group of student-athletes.”
Brown inherits a Trailblazer program that finished 10-7-2 overall and 6-3-2 in the Western Athletic Conference in 2022.
Brown joined the staff from Gonzaga prior to the 2018 season and was part of one of the most successful years in program history. In her first season, she helped the team set single-season program records for goals, assists, points and rebounds. The team posted its third straight double-digit win season in her sophomore year, tying a program record with 12 wins while earning national poll votes.
During the 2020-21 season, the Bulldog coaching staff was named the West Region Staff of the Year by the United Soccer Coaches College Service, paving the way for a historic year in 2022 as the program regroups. Program records. With a 15-5 record, Gonzaga set new program-highs in goals (47), assists (39), total points (131), total shots (387) and goals per game (2.35). 16 in the nation.
Last season, Brown helped lead the Bulldog women’s soccer program to a 10-3-5 overall record, leading the West Coast Conference in scoring (37) and ranking third in goals allowed at just 0.95 per game.
Prior to her time at Gonzaga, Brown spent two seasons on the women’s soccer coaching staff at her alma mater, Utah Valley University. In the year In her first season as an assistant coach at Utah Valley in 2015, Brown helped lead the Wolverines to their most successful season in school history. The team won a school-record 14 games, went undefeated at home (9-0-1), won the WAC Tournament Championship and made its first appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
UVU would go on to win another 10 games on its staff in its second season, including a 2-0 victory over New Mexico State in the first round of the WAC Tournament.
“I would like to express my gratitude to the past mentors and coaches who have prepared me for the next chapter of my life,” Brown said. “I’ve been fortunate to work with some of the best people in the business and look forward to continuing to build this program using the tools and philosophies I’ve gathered during my time as an assistant.”
Brown spent four seasons with the Wolverines before entering the coaching ranks, scoring seven goals and eight assists. A two-time all-conference honoree, she led Utah Valley’s defense with 13 wins and a school-high nine shutouts and was named first-team All-WAC and the WAC Player of the Year.
With three academic all-conference awards, she graduated magna cum laude in 2015 with a bachelor’s degree in exercise science and outdoor recreation.
