Whipt Creations is a new local catering business that specializes in classic Southern comfort food and caters to customers with a sweet tooth. Owner Ashley Morris says Whipped’s entire menu is customizable, and recipes are inspired by cuisine in Owensboro and Charleston, South Carolina.
Morris lived in Charleston for 8 years and noticed that they had a different take on Southern-style cooking, which relied on fried fish, red beans, rice and other delicacies.
“You don’t find much in this area. So every time I lived there, I was introduced to a whole new world of food,” Morris said.
Morris says she has had a love for cooking since she was a child, watching her parents make food from what they had in their garden. As she gets older, she does barbecue and traditional kitchen cooking.
“It is the language of love. It’s something different that I don’t know how to explain,” she says of her passion for cooking. “If the conversation is about food, anyone can talk about it.”
When Morris first started Whipt, she was making box lunches; Eventually, she thought it would be good to get into catering as her customers grew bigger.
Now, Whippet is a catering business that serves primarily soul foods and other foods, as well as “sweet treats” and special requests.
Morris also emphasized that she tries to offer low-carb menu items. She says inspiration comes from the fact that she herself recently lost more than 100 pounds. She said she makes her own food like low-carb tortillas, bread and other options.
