The city council has enacted new rules of procedure to help facilitate business over time.
The new rules accomplish several goals: allowing members of the public to be heard at the beginning of meetings; Allowing a greater number of residents to participate in matters of public interest; and facilitate council business meetings in an orderly and timely manner.
These rules apply this month:
- Public opinion on any item in the Agreement agenda The consent agenda will be heard before a vote is taken. Each person who chooses to speak will have a maximum of three minutes to comment on several items on the consensus agenda.
- Speaker Registration rules They remain unchanged.
- Public opinion on A non-consensual agenda A dissenting opinion is heard before the agenda is voted on. Each person will have a maximum of three minutes to comment on any number of items on the informal agenda.
- Speakers can sign up to speak for up to three minutes per item. Public hearings and zoning hearings.
- The mayor is the only council member who can. Move an item Allowing three minutes for the speaker to speak on that item separately from the agenda for consent or disapproval.
