Plates – No. 5 Georgia Tech volleyball (3-0) opened its GT Invitational at home with a win over Dayton (2-3) in its first official home match of 2022. The Yellow Jackets won both of the first two sets by double digits, cruising to a 75-48 total point advantage (25-15, 25-14, 25-19).

Tech dominated the match on the boards, with kills (42-31), hitting percentage (.365-.122), assists (39-27), aces (5-3) and digs (42-25).

Top outside shooter Julia Bergman She continued to lead the way for the White and Gold as she had a match-high 16 kills on a .448 clip to go along with seven digs, a pair of blocks and a pair of aces. Not far behind Bergman is the Killer B’s second outfield hitter, the third remaining from last season’s trio. Bianca Bertolino. The Argentine totaled nine kills, a match-high 12 digs and two blocks. Junior set Bella D’Amico Led the game with 28 assists and coordinated Tech’s offense.

How did it happen?

The Flyers were able to hang with the Jackets midway through the first set, pulling within 15-14 and answering a pair of Tech three-point runs. Georgia Tech surgically picked Dayton apart in the rest of the set, scoring 10 of the final 11 points to pull away to a 25-15 victory.

The White and Gold built a steady lead in the second set, using two- and three-point bursts to take an 11-5 advantage. After a six-point run, the Jackets went on a 17-6 run, closing out the second quarter with a 25-14 final score.

Georgia Tech had a streak early in the third set, opening the set by taking the first four points and going on a five-point run headlined by three Bergman kills that soon led to an 11-4 lead. The two sides traded blows from that clash, but the advantage allowed the Jackets to stay within four or more points of the senior midfield in a 25-19 third-and-match win at midfield. Erin Moss.
