In the year When looking at the players to watch on this Virginia Tech team in 2022, very few will catch your eye as much as linebacker. Dax Holyfield. Holifield, a fifth-year senior, moved back into the middle of the defense and has been there his entire career in Biscburg. The 6-foot-1, 245-pound Holyfield is coming off an impressive season, leading the team with 92.0 tackles (44.0 solo), 9.0 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks. He also recorded his fourth career steal while shining in the field. The energetic linebacker will also line up on Tech’s special teams units.
His partner in the middle of the field, Alan Tisdale, will return for another time, he wants to continue his strong position. The redshirt junior started all 13 games a season ago, finishing with 84.0 total tackles (44.0 solo), 7.5 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks.
Others in the mix
While Holyfield and Tisdale get the most attention in the class, and rightfully so, the Hokies certainly have a talented fan base to back them up. Keonta Jenkins He is a player who moves up from the safety position and can help if needed. The Jacksonville, Florida product played in 12 games a year ago, and produced 17.0 tackles. Redshirt freshman Jaden Keller He can play a big role. The 6-foot-3, 223-pounder saw four games as a backup in 2021 and could be an athlete who could take a big step forward from a developmental standpoint this coming season. The same can be said of Clayton, North Carolina native JRWalker. As a redshirt sophomore, he played in all 13 games on special teams a season ago and is another who could find his way into the mix.
