The Clatsop County Department of Public Health will offer the newly approved, modified version of the COVID-19 booster vaccine at two public vaccination events in Beach and Astoria.

  • Tuesday, September 132-6 p.m
Sunset Empire Parks and Rec Center, 1140 Broadway, Seaside (Northwest Entrance)
By appointment only – Register online
  • Wednesday, September 212-6 p.m
Clatop County Fairgrounds, 92937 Walluski Loop, Astoria
By appointment only – Register online

The events are for incentives only – primary vaccine doses are not available. Please bring your vaccination card.

The new bivalent enhancer was developed from the original coronavirus strain as well as the Omicron variant of the Covid-19 virus, which is currently the most prevalent strain. Both Moderna and Pfizer provide the incentive, and both are involved in vaccine preparations.

Pfizer Booster is available to individuals age 12 and older. Both the Pfizer and Moderna incentives are available to people 18 and older.

People can get the boost if they completed their first vaccination series at least two months ago (first and second dose of Modernada, Pfizer or Novovax, or one dose of Johnson & Johnson).

The US Centers for Disease Control says people can “mix and match” vaccines — for example, even if your first shot was a Modadia vaccine, you might get a Pfizer boost.

State and federal health officials say that immunity to Covid-19, whether from vaccination or prior infection, wears off over time, and the new boost provides additional protection against serious illness. Those aged 65 and over and especially those with chronic health conditions are urged to take the boost.

The Department of Public Health will schedule additional clinics, including promotional events, to present the new incentive to nearby communities as additional booster shots are distributed.

Go to CDC online search tool To find other suppliers who offer the incentive.
