TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – Abraham Abuhamed opened City Hall Grill and Beverages in 1979 and as the business grew many times the bridge replacement on Reynolds Road affected traffic.
At one point, construction left the facility without water.
“Yesterday when the water broke, we had to close because we were under a boil advisory that we had not been notified about before,” Abu Ahmed said.
Abu Ahmed added that he met the city, several departments and even wrote a letter to the mayor’s office. However, he has not yet received a response.
13abc contacted city officials, but no one was available for comment.
“All I’m asking for is communication, let me know about things that could go wrong. At least we’ll have the heads up to prepare for better or worse, if you have some knowledge about it you can always prepare for something.” Abu Ahmed said.
ODOT public information officer Kelsey Hoagland said the city is responsible for the water lines while ODOT performs the road work.
Hoagland added that she understands how inconvenient the construction is, but it is necessary.
“Once we see that those conditions are deteriorating, it’s very important to be able to replace the bridge. Whether that was five years ago, whether that was today, or whether it was down the road, it should have been done,” he said. .
Utility line replacement and relocation by ODOT is common in projects like the one on Reynolds Road.
Hoagland said bridge replacements can even affect Internet, telephone or cable lines connected to power or water.
“[it’s] The things that travel under the road that we don’t think about when we’re driving in a car,” Hoagland said.
Hoagland said residents and businesses in the area should prepare for a 15-day-long closure of Reynolds Road starting Sept. 12. ODOT will send out notices and anyone with questions can contact Hoagland.
