Houghton, Mich – Alex Rondorff notched her third double-double of the season to help Michigan Tech beat Davenport 76-58 Thursday night at SDC Gymnasium, extending her team’s winning streak to five straight.
Rondorff posted 21 points and 11 rebounds as Tech improved to 15-3 overall.
“Alex did everything today,” head coach Sam Clayton said. “Offensively, she’s hitting threes and going to the offensive boards. She’s getting into the lane with three steals. She’s a very unselfish player who always runs the floor and just creates a ton for us.”
How did it happen?
The Huskies shot 2-for-6 to start the game and Davenport jumped out to a 9-4 run. Rondorff capped the offense with an open 3-pointer at the top of the key and Tech went on a 21-6 run midway through the second quarter with Rondorff in double figures. The Huskies shot 46-percent in the first half and took a 37-24 lead. Rondorff tallied 13 points while Claire Grewer posted seven for DU.
Mackay connected on a 3-point play late in the third quarter with a drive into the paint and the Huskies stayed in front.
Lily Gustafson helped the Panthers control the margin to less than 10 points after making 4 of 6 baskets, but Isabella Lenz helped close the third quarter with a 55-44 3-pointer for MTU.
Lenz hit a pair of shots from downtown in the fourth quarter to put the game out of reach for the visitors after the Huskies shot 45-percent (25-56) overall, including 46 percent from beyond the arc (12-26).
“I give Davenport a lot of credit because he came out ready to play from the start,” Clayton said. “We have to do a better job of measuring every possession, but I’m proud of the way we responded. Then in the second half, we hit some important shots and executed our offense effectively.”
“I think we could have played better, especially in the first quarter,” Rondorff said. “It’s up to us to learn from the early mistakes on Saturday. Later we closed in defensively and communicated well, which helped us.”
Lenz had her third 20-point game of the season with 20 points and a team-high 5 rebounds. She shot 7-for-14, including 4-for-7 from long range. Ellie Mackay had 11 points and nine rebounds, while Sloane Zenner scored eight.
Both teams committed 12 turnovers and the Panthers had 39 rebounds, compared to Tech’s 34. The Huskies had 11 offensive rebounds and 18 second-chance points. MTU led by as many as 20 in the final minute of the fourth quarter.

The Panthers (7-11, 1-7) lost their fifth game in six games and resume Saturday afternoon at Northern Michigan. Three players reached double figures, led by Greger with 14 points (5-10) and 15 rebounds. DU shot 38-percent (23-60) overall and 27-percent (6-22) from outside.
