Sabrina Oliveira, AAS Fashion Design ’19, built her brand in Mexico City.

During the Mexican Revolution, Sabrina Oliveira, AAS Fashion Design ’19, was inspired by the women who fought in the Mexican Revolution in the 1950s, emancipating themselves through night dancing and paid friendships. Isolated.

As a fashion designer in her hometown of Mexico City, Oliveira’s brand was built on the concept of highlighting the contributions of forgotten women. This theme has guided her recent collections and her new Pheromonas, which debuted in September at Galleria Unión in Mexico City.

“I’m passionate about creating things that question people and myself, reconfigure pre-established things, and create new conversations,” she explains. “I’ve been in New York for seven years, but I think Mexico is a special place for me to create. Ever since I got back, I feel like I’ve been held by a community and being inspired by their skills and work has helped me a lot in my career.”

Olivera is grateful for her time studying at Parsons where she learned the discipline and the fact that there are no limits to one’s creativity.

“I felt inspired and pushed by the other students every day, and as a woman from a third-world country, the school felt like a creative utopia,” she says. “Resources are never limited, and the people around you can always bring you new challenges to solve.”

After working in New York for seven years, Oliveira returned to Mexico City, which she considers to be the perfect place to design and create, and her ideas are constantly evolving. Now that her brand is up and running, she is centralizing her design and production process and exploring her creative side in preparation for her new collection.
