Scott City, Mo. (KFVS) – A Heartland school is celebrating after winning a technology award among more than 100 schools in the Midwest.
Scott City School District is a recent recipient of the Midwest Tech Talk Technology Department Excellence Award.
Midwest Tech Talk is a two-day conference event with school district technology departments that focuses on the future of each school district’s technology programs.
We spoke with Director of Technology Mike Cosey about how they are bringing more technology resources to schools for staff and students.
“Learning how to use digital resources while learning in the classroom is about knowing how to use all of your resources,” Cosey said. “It’s not just technology. There is room at the table for a teacher to use old school resources and technology. So we want our children to learn how to use both.
Kosi said they faced some pretty tough schools before being named the winner.
“There are a lot of talented IT people in public education,” Cosey said. “You’re going to be on fire with any class, they’re all talented and they’re all great. We went up against the St. Charles School District. They are a large district with a large staff. It’s exciting to be a small district and be able to win an award even though you’re up against some of the larger school districts.
Kosi said the award is a good reminder to the people at the school that technology is helping staff and students learn and provide better educational opportunities.
“You’ve put in a lot of time and energy and you just want to know that it’s something you’re doing, that you’re on the right track,” Cosey said. “You are doing things that will have a positive impact on your teachers and students. So we’re really proud of that.
Scott City’s IT team consists of three individuals, including Director of Technology Mike Cosey, Education and Technology Coach Lindsay Aycock, and Systems Administrator Chris Bradshaw.
