Mishawaka, Ind. (WNDU) – St. Joseph’s Health System He held a 9/11 tribute this morning in Mishawaka.
A minute of two minutes of silence was observed for each tower.
“Today, to remember 9/11, all that has passed, and ten years later, St. Joseph’s Health Systems brings a piece of the 9/11 memorial to us to cherish and remember those we have loved and lost. Samuel Alameda, 1st Sergeant, United States Marine Corps, retired.
Standing on top of the monument is a fragment from one of the mall’s buildings, a reminder of the destruction that took place 21 years ago today.
“There were a lot of firefighters, police officers and military personnel running in and helping people out,” Alameda said. “And after the walls came down, even members from the reserve center went to New York City to help. So there were people from all directions rushing to help and save as many lives as they could.
Alameda offered a floral tribute at the memorial.
His cousin, Emilio “Pete” Ortiz, worked in Tower 1 and tragically lost his life during the attack.
“It’s important how we come together as a nation, as a world,” Alameda said. The whole world came together because everyone was affected, not just us. So, this gives us hope. It is our hope that as a country, as a world, we can come together for something better.
