MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – The Memphis Police Department is investigating several commercial burglaries from Friday and Saturday, according to police.
Friday night at 2926 Lamar Street in City Gear, officers responded to a burglary at 8:40 p.m.
Police have been patrolling the area after seeing several vehicles parked in front of City Gear. As the officers approached the vehicles, several individuals wearing dark clothing entered their vehicle and fled the scene heading westbound on Lamar Street.
Officers found damage to the front glass door, windows and doors of the business, but nothing was entered.
While on the scene, mall security approached officers and stated that the suspects had threatened to kill her and were armed with guns.
Security left the scene before police could get more information.
The suspects, who have not been identified, were driving a dark colored Chevy Tahoe, a green, black and gray Dodge Charger, a red Chevy Camaro, a gray and black Nissan Sentra and a black Nissan Altima.
The estimated cost of damage was $5,000.
On Friday at 8:50 p.m., officers responded to a commercial robbery at the Urban Outfitters located at 2151 Central Ave., according to MPD.
Officers received an anonymous call that several individuals armed with bats entered the business.
The police attended the incident and noticed that the side window of the shop was broken.
The manager arrived at the scene and said he would follow up with investigators once the items were taken, although they could not say how many items were taken.
On Friday at 10:10 a.m., officers reported a business burglary at Hibbet Sport, 3685 Hickory Hill Road, according to MPD.
Officers arrived at the parking lot and observed approximately 20 cars and SUVs driving without tags or TN temporary tags.
When officers approached the building, the front door was completely gone.
Upon entering, officers found the store ransacked and several items of clothing stolen.
At 10:39 p.m., the manager cleared the scene, police said.
According to video surveillance, a white pickup truck, possibly a Ford, was armed with a nylon strap and used to force entry into the building, police said.
Saturday at 12:15 a.m. Officers responded to a robbery at City Gear at 2926 Lamar Street.
Officers arrived on scene and observed several vehicles in front of the business and when officers approached the suspect vehicles they fled the scene heading eastbound on Lamar Street.
One of the suspect vehicles was a Uhaul with an unknown identification number.
Officers noticed the front window of the business was broken and merchandise was scattered throughout the store.
The manager worked the location and reported that an estimated $15,000 to $20,000 worth of shoes and clothing were stolen and the suspects breached the security camera system.
Officials were unable to view the video footage due to the damage.
