The Susquehanna Health Foundation recently recognized Steve Johnson, Susquehanna Health’s longest-serving health care leader, now at UPMC North Central Pa., for his lifetime dedication and extraordinary service to advancing health care in North Central Pa., across the Commonwealth and nationally with its eighth annual Lifetime Awards.
The President’s Award is presented to Johnson in recognition of his four decades at the forefront of the rapidly changing health care environment, according to a recent press release.
“Steve is in a class of his own when it comes to his legacy of service, generosity and forward-thinking.” Susquehanna Health Foundation President Sherry Watts said. “He has built strong partnerships, improved health care throughout our region, and dedicated countless hours to meaningful community organizations. The President’s Award is a fitting recognition of his dedicated service in the field of healthcare and philanthropy.
Progressive initiatives at Susquehanna Health under Johnson’s leadership have ensured that high-quality health care remains accessible in the region, the release said. Johnson also played a major role in Susquehanna Health as part of UPMC, bringing new health care innovation to the region.
Johnson’s leadership and influence has extended beyond the regional health system as he has contributed to health care reform through various roles on regional and national boards of directors, including Lyte League International, the Hospital and Health System Association of Pennsylvania (HAP) and the American Hospital Association. .
During his tenure as president of the Susquehanna Health Foundation’s board of directors, Johnson oversaw more than $52 million raised to implement major health facility upgrades and technological advances, according to a press release.
