Luke Voight’s home run power has caught people’s attention before – after all, it was three years ago when Voight led the American League in home runs as a pitcher with the New York Yankees.
Voight found himself in the spotlight again Saturday night at NBT Bank Stadium in Syracuse. And while he blasted a home run for the Syracuse Mets that night, it was his fashion choice that got most of the headlines.
On a humid night in Central New York, the Mets were wearing sleeveless jerseys — and Voight decided to ditch his usual t-shirt under his vest and go with a “gun out.”
Voight’s appearance quickly went viral, with Sports Illustrated, Fox Sports, and the New York Post among media outlets spotlighting it.
While many took the opportunity to poke fun at Voight’s fashion choices on social media, it’s hard to argue with the results; Voight ripped a solo home run to left field in the eighth inning. But it wasn’t enough as the RailRiders beat the Mets 8-3.
It was Voight’s fourth home run in just 14 games against Syracuse this season. He began the 2023 season with the Milwaukee Brewers before being released last month and signed by the Mets on June 11.
