Last year at the GSMA Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Las Vegas, I had the privilege of serving as a judge for T-Mobile’s First Extraordinary Award. The former CTIA event suffered from an identity crisis for a long time, but the move from Los Angeles has finally breathed new life into the event. To increase the visibility of its business services, T-Mobile created an award ceremony in Las Vegas in 2022 to commemorate the innovation of communication solutions in various industries and educational institutions.
They synchronized the event. American Idol will meet Shark Tank– but without crazy. This year, I will join the same panel of judges and celebrate unconventional thinking in the category dilemma. I’d like to share the details with you, so let’s dive in.
Joining me for extraordinary awards this year is a who’s who of thought leaders. In addition to myself—an internationally recognized industry analyst who manages Moor Insights & Strategy’s network and security practices—the panel includes:
For 2023, the extraordinary awards consist of four creative categories and the winners are awarded an amount of money to donate to charity. The nomination process starts on May 1 and runs until the end of July. You can know more by visiting the official nomination site.
The first category is Customer Experience, which aims to recognize companies that strive to better serve customers and deliver on a product experience or promise. The second is employee motivation, which clarifies paths to find new and unusual ways to bring out the best in their internal teams. The third is industry, which celebrates pioneers who challenge the status quo and facilitate innovation in industries. The fourth category, new for this year, is the community heralding disruptions in government, education and public safety that create innovation within their respective organizations.
I love the addition of a fourth category this year to round out our coverage and, most importantly, to recognize the educators and first responders who are so important to the fabric of our community.
I look forward to attending MWC Las Vegas in the fall, and especially to the opportunity to participate again at T-Mobile’s Business Extraordinary Awards. The program is an innovative way to recognize leaders in public and private institutions and highlight their use of communication.
In my estimation, we are halfway through the 5G era with many mobile network operators yet to deploy 5G Standalone, which promises to unlock the true potential of the technology. T-Mobile is the first to reach that 5G milestone, and it will be interesting to see what happens at the next awards ceremony and the telecommunications industry as a whole.
