Longtime Tampa Bay Tech CEO Jill St. Thomas, who has been at the forefront of establishing the region as a competitive tech destination, is stepping down.

“I felt it was time. We’ve done so much, particularly in building this brand and Tampa’s tech hub,” St. Thomas said. Her last day serving in the top post will be Aug. 5.

St. Thomas, who has been at the nonprofit for 10 years and in her current role for the past six years, has accomplished much including transitioning the organization’s marquee events to virtual events during the pandemic, increasing memberships and partnerships, and launching the first ever Autism@ Work hiring initiative in Tampa Bay with area technology companies and university partners.

She said she plans to stay in the area with her family and has been approached with several different opportunities.

St. Thomas is handing the reins to interim CEO Virginia Lee, who has worked at Tampa Bay Tech for over eight years and served on the Executive Committee for the past five.

“My goal is to better educate the public and connect the tech community,” Lee said, explaining that she’s a technologist by trade.

Tampa Bay Tech will establish a search committee to find the next permanent CEO.

Today, Tampa Bay Tech has over 145 member companies representing thousands of tech employees. It also provides annual programming and initiatives to support those in the technology space regardless of what stage they are at in their professional journey.
