PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — It started with Christian Palamon’s disbelief.
“One of the managers called me and said, ‘Oh my God, we have to make pizza Taylor Swift!’ I said, ‘What do you mean? Are you sure it’s for her?” Palamon recalled.
On Saturday, a partner at Avenue Steak & Pizza on S. Juniper Street near Philadelphia Broad and Oregon said he asked the manager to call the number to confirm the order was indeed for Popstar. Taylor Swift.
“I’m like, ‘Can you call back to make sure?’ I don’t want to make a joke or anything because there was too much pizza,” Palamon said.
Once the first order of 50 pizzas was confirmed for Swift and her staff at Lincoln Financial Field, Palamone got busy getting ready. On Sunday, the Berk County-native team called back to add 25 more pizzas to the order and cheesesteaks, fries and more.
“We had such a big job ahead of us, but I knew we had to do it,” Palamon said. “It was like an impossible dinner!” he continued.
At 9 a.m. Sunday, a South Philly business owner said Swift’s team arrived in two vans to pick up the order.
“Everybody on the phone was like a super fan. Once we told them why we can’t give them pizza right now, we’re like, like, an hour and a half later, they call us back, we’re making pizza for Taylor Swift.” Palamon
It took about two hours to complete the order. They close the restaurant to finish Swift’s order.
“I’ve always loved her music, I mean, obviously, she’s a huge star. She makes great music, she’s very popular, and now you know, I feel more connected to all these crazy things that have happened,” Palamon said. .
Since posting the moment on social media, Palamon says he’s been flooded with messages of support from Swifties.
“I believe we have a big pizza, and if it’s good enough for Taylor Swift, it’s good enough for everybody, so try it,” Palamon said with a smile.
In the past few days, fans have been coming to the restaurant, saying that they only came because Swift ate there.
“She’s an Eagles fan, and she’s a pretty hometown girl, so that’s great. What she’s done is great. She’s supported a lot of businesses in the area,” Palamon said. “It’s a blessing for us,” he added.
