Tech is tied for third place after 18 holes in Pullman

Pullman, Wash. – Behind several strong up-and-down lineups and a strong close, the Texas Tech women’s golf program enjoys sole possession of third place after 18 holes of the Pullman Regional hosted by Washington State and Palouse Ridge Golf Club.

The day got off to a strong start for Texas Tech, with a pair of players leading a strong first nine holes. From 10 years old, primary school student Shannon Tan He got off to a rocky start, using three birdies in the first five holes to record a bogey-free 32.


In the end, Tan sprinkled two bogeys around a pair of birdies and an eagle to end the day at -6, good for a tie for fourth.

Strong performances found the Red Raiders tied for third overall at -11.


No. 1 Stanford caught fire late to lead No. 13 USC (-16) by five shots with 267 (-21) team points. Tech sits five shots back at -11, followed by No. 11 Baylor and Sacramento State tied at five under.


Houston (-4), Clemson (-3), Cal Poly (-2) and Kentucky (-1) round out the nine teams.


UNC and UNLV are tied for 10.^Th At +3, Green Bay is tied for 12th at +23.


After a slow start, world No. 1 amateur Rose Zhang used four late birdies and an eagle to post a 64 (-8) opening round. Zhang and teammate Sadie Englemann are tied at -8, followed by UC Riverside’s Tiffany Lee at -7.



Next:
Tech returns to the second round tomorrow at 11 a.m. (CT) and will face No. 1 Stanford and No. 13 USC.
