Tennessee knocked off Texas in dominant fashion, celebrating its eighth WCWS berth.

Sunday, May 7 was the last time Tennessee lost a softball game. It only took them three games to get out of the Knoxville Regional and two in the Knoxville Super Regional to take down Texas. Neither contest was particularly close in a tournament where the average margin of victory in the NCAA Tournament was 7.2 runs.

For the eighth time in program history, Tennessee is headed to the WCWS.

Saturday marked the eighth women’s college World Series win for Tennessee. The last came during the 2015 season, ending an eight-year drought for the program. NCAA tournament appearances have been in between for each season, but this time the Lady Vols were able to advance.

Tennessee is without a national championship in its history, looking to capture its first in 2023. It has been to the finals twice, in 2007 Arizona And again in 2013 against Oklahoma. Maybe this year’s team will be able to get the job done completely.

A double-elimination format will take place in Oklahoma City, starting on June 1. The championship series will begin six days later on June 7, where a national champion will be crowned.
