Texas Tech, Big 12 2023 football schedule announced

Lubbock, Texas – Texas Tech and the Big 12 Conference announced their 2023 football schedule Tuesday, which includes six home games at Jones AT&T Stadium with visits to Houston, Kansas State, TCU and UCF during league play.

Houston and UCF are two of three new members on the schedule in 2023. Tech previously beat Houston, 33-30, in double overtime as the two former Southwest Conference foes ended a four-game nonconference sweep against each other.

In addition to both Houston and UCF, the Red Raiders will make their first trip to the Utah State Football Tournament on Oct. 21 when Texas Tech takes on BYU. The Red Raiders beat BYU, 21-20, in the only other meeting between the two schools in 1940, which dates back to the early days of the Texas Tech football program.

Big 12 play begins Sept. 23 when the Red Raiders travel to West Virginia, one of five road games on the conference docket. Texas Tech will make trips to Baylor (Oct. 7), BYU (Oct. 21), Kansas (Nov. 11) and Texas (Nov. 24), with the final on the Friday following Thanksgiving.

Texas will host TCU on Nov. 2 following its only open weekend of the season, one of two non-Saturday days for the Red Raiders. It will be the first Thursday night home contest for the Red Raiders since Texas Tech beat Kansas in 2016. Texas Tech is a perfect 2-0 in Thursday night games against TCU after defeating the Horned Frogs at home in 2013 and back-to-back in 2018 in Fort Worth.

Texas Tech’s only conference match will be on Oct. 14 when Big 12 champion Kansas State returns to Lubbock. As part of the league’s new 14-team format for 2023, the Red Raiders will not face Iowa State, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma State or new conference member Cincinnati.

The conference slate follows Texas Tech’s three non-conference games starting with Wyoming on Sept. 2 and home dates with Oregon on Sept. 9 and Tarleton State on Sept. 16. The Ducks are one of three teams set to visit Jones AT&T Stadium. Joining Kansas State and TCU this coming season, he finished in the top 15 of the final Associated Press poll.

Tickets for all six games at Jones AT&T Stadium are currently on sale for as low as $185 per seat. The Texas Tech ticket office is offering eight-month payment plans until today, before moving to a seven-month option starting Wednesday. Current season ticket holders have until February 28 to renew their seats and parking for the 2023 season.
