Some of the biggest names in fashion, houses and brands gathered to discuss and celebrate sustainability.
From Prada to Maison Valentino to Adut Akech, the most significant forces in fashion gathered to discuss and celebrate the sustainability movement in fashion at the CNMI Sustainable Fashion Awards.
Camera Nazionale della Moda Italia (CNMI) in collaboration with the United Nations Ethical Fashion Initiative (EFI) and with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the ICE Agency and the Municipality of Milan, presents the CNMI Sustainable Fashion Awards 2022 at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan.
The awards ceremony was hosted by Rossi De Palma, who wore a Maison Valentino gown from the Valentino Resort 2023 collection for the evening. The dress featured a rose embellishment handmade in Rome using recycled fabrics from Valentino’s atelier.
14 awards and two special awards were awarded at the ceremony.
The 14 CNMI prize winners reproduced the Venere dell’Stracci, a 20th-century masterpiece brought back to life thanks to 3D printing. Each reproduction is customized, so each award is unique to the recipient.
Before heading into the awards ceremony, Giorgio Armani presented a runway show highlighting some of the women’s spring-summer 2023 collections.
The first award was the Ocean Award, which was presented by Prada.
Then came the Climate Action Award for La Soledad x Gucci. Then there was the Social Impact Award given to Ara Lumière.
Then, before the fashion show break, the Groundbreaker Award was presented to Grounded Indigo in Albini_next and Stoney Creek colors.
After the fourth award, it was the Gucci show that featured five looks from Alessandro Michele that have been seen on runways and red carpets worldwide.
The next group of awards follows the airport and includes the Human Rights Award awarded to Dr. Rubana Haag. Also the Bicester Collection Award for Emerging Designers, awarded to Nkwo Unkwa.
The Philanthropy and Society Award was then awarded to the OTB Foundation, and the Ellen MacArthur Foundation Award for the Circular Economy was awarded to Timberland.
The third of the four runways from Prada is presented. This was a showcase of some of Prada’s amazing looks, specially selected by Miuccia Prada and her team.
After Prada, we saw the Pioneer Award given to Eileen Fisher and the Biodiversity Award to Ermenegildo Zegna Group.
Surprisingly, this year’s ceremony didn’t award anyone with an equity and inclusion award because they couldn’t find judges who have made equity and inclusion a key part of their work in fashion.
Before the final round of the awards, we saw the final runway show at Maison Valentino, which featured five looks from Valentino’s ever-popular Pink PP collection.
The final group of awards were then presented and saw the Craft & Italian Artisanship Award awarded to Bottega Veneta. Then the Walmark Company Innovation Award was given to Sea and the Vision Award was given to Giorgio Armani.
Those were the last official awards of the night. However, the celebration continues to celebrate Adut Akech’s historic rise to become one of the biggest models in the world and to remember Ratti and the hope she brought to the fashion industry.
The awards ceremony shed much needed light on the work being done to make fashion more sustainable. However, CNMI and the world know there is still much work to be done in fashion and beyond.
