The successful kick was not easy for Booker, who injured his left ankle early in the game. The injury forced him to miss the first half at quarterback, with safety Justin Reid, who connected on the extra punt attempt in the preseason, on duty. Reid was also successful, going 1 for 2 on extra point attempts while handling the rest of the game’s kickoffs.

“I had a lot of fun there,” Justin Reid said. “It took me back to my high school days…I always wanted to put it on tape to let people know that I could really hit. It’s there now, and it’s going to be there forever.”

The Chiefs continued the momentum sparked by Booker’s 54-yard punt at halftime, scoring touchdowns on three consecutive possessions, holding Arizona scoreless until the fourth quarter. Tight end Jody Fortson, wide receiver Mekol Hardman and tailback Isiah Pacheco each piled up .488 net offense and were responsible for trips to the end zone as part of a 6-for-6 effort in the red zone.

“The guys were ready to go,” Mahomes said. “They were really excited to go out there and show what we had. All season long, people asked us what this team was like. We always believed we could go out there and put on a show, and I thought the guys did that.

Kansas City’s defense, meanwhile, continued to stifle the Cardinals’ offensive attack throughout the game. Arizona went 3-of-12 on third down and struck out five times. To further demonstrate the Chiefs’ defensive dominance, Mahomes recorded more passing yards (360) than Arizona’s total yards (282).

The Chiefs frequently harassed Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray, who had just 222 yards in the game with three sacks.

“We played OK – we missed a lot of opportunities – but overall I thought we were the better team,” defensive lineman Chris Jones said.
