The dean of MSU’s business school has resigned due to stress


The dean of Michigan State University’s broad school of business has tendered his resignation amid management concerns and failure to report sexual or relationship abuse in accordance with university guidelines, university officials announced Friday.

Dr. Sanjay Gupta has stepped down after 15 years at the university, seven of which were dean.

Provost Teresa Woodruff has appointed Dr. Judith Whipple as interim dean, the university announced.

According to the University’s Mandatory Reporting Policy, “Unless identified as a confidential source, all University employees have a duty to promptly report sexual harassment, sexual assault, sexual misconduct, stalking, and relational violence” that they perceive in their professional capacity involves a member of the University community or takes place on University property or at a University-sanctioned event. .

“People who play leadership roles at MSU are expected to act with focus and consistency in a focused and professional manner,” the university wrote in a statement Friday. “This leadership transition is the result of poor management oversight, including non-compliance with our mandatory reporting guidelines.

Palmer Endowed Professor of Mathematics and Chair of the Department of Accounting and Information Systems. In July 2012, he was appointed Associate Dean of the MBA and Professional Masters Programs.
