Monash Health, one of Victoria’s largest public health services, is implementing a new messaging app developed by IT services provider FiveP on Microsoft Teams.
Dr Michael Franco, CMIO at Monash Health, said Barrett, a role-based messaging solution, was being trialled with more than 600 medical registrars across five health service hospitals.
What is it about?
Barrett enables closed communication between clinical and frontline staff. It allows users to know exactly who to contact and connect instantly.
One of his main skills is to acknowledge the exchange of messages between parties, ensuring that any open communications are transferred to new employees on their shifts. It also helps users easily view and prioritize messages.
In addition, Beret offers auditing and monitoring of all communications through an administrative dashboard and EMR/PAS system integration.

Why is it important?
Monash Health chose to trial Barrett because of its potential to improve clinical communications and streamline its internal contact centre. Mark Gravel, director of technology business services at Monash Health, said: “Because Barrett can relay messages directly to registered clinicians, we expect the volume of calls to be reduced with our switch and fast data exchange.”
His pilot “provides a consistent, streamlined and timely clinical communication system, allowing our frontline staff to spend more time directly on patient care,” said Dr. Franco.
