ATLANTA (AP) — The future of football coach Geoff Collins appears to be hanging in the balance when the Georgia Tech Athletic Association board called a meeting Monday.

Georgia Tech spokesman Mike Flynn said Sunday’s meeting will be open to board members only.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that Collins is out after three-plus seasons, citing an anonymous source.

Following three consecutive three-win seasons and a 1-3 start this month, there has been much speculation about Collins’ status. Georgia Tech athletic director Todd Stansbury, who hired Collins, also faced heavy criticism.

Collins is 10-28 at Georgia Tech. Yellow Jackets They finished 3-9 in 2021. The poor finish was overshadowed by losses to Notre Dame and Georgia by a combined margin of 100-0.

There were more upset losses this season, including 41-10 to Clemson to open the season. On September 17, the Yellow Jackets were shut out at home by Mississippi 42-0.

The Collins Jackets have been outscored 183-10 in their last four games against Power 5 opponents. They allowed at least 41 points in each loss and were shutout in three of those games.

The Yellow Jackets lost to Central Florida 27-10 on Saturday as Collins needed to improve.

Collins assumed he would stay on as coach after Saturday’s game.

“My hope is, I’m standing in front of a group of young guys that I absolutely love and are going to give everything to them, and that’s what I’m hoping to do,” Collins said.

Asked why he believes he should stay on as coach, Collins said: “We played against a really good football team and apart from some self-inflicted mistakes, we played good football. The boys were ready to go out there and play at a high level. We have fallen on some hard times.

Prior to being hired at Georgia Tech, Collins was 15-10 in two seasons as Temple’s Dec 7, 2018 coach. He replaces Paul Johnson, who was 189-11 in 11 seasons at Georgia Tech. Johnson had a 51-37 record in Atlantic Coast Conference games. Georgia Tech is 7-19 in conference games under Collins.

Prior to being hired at Temple, Collins was an assistant coach at Mississippi State from 2011-14 and Florida’s defensive coordinator from 2015-16.
