As part of the Healthy Hays Forum series, the Hays County Environmental Health Department (HCLD) will host a Deaf and Hard of Hearing Health Disparities Forum on October 20 at Moe & Gene Johnson High School at 4260 FM 967 in Buda.
Experts discuss differences in the deaf and hard of hearing community and how adverse childhood communication experiences (ACCE) can lead to chronic illness in adults.
“We know that many community residents are unaware of the health disparities in the deaf and hard of hearing community,” said Matthew Gonzales, Health Equity and Community Engagement Program Manager. “Through this forum, we hope to provide information and resources to help Hays County learn more about this issue.”
The hour-long presentation will be held from 6:15-7:15 p.m. Several deaf and hard of hearing organizations will be on hand to chat with attendees.
Future forum topics include a new Parent Preparedness Forum on Dripping Springs on October 27. HCLHD is holding its first Fall Community Health Fair on Oct. 22 at the Kyle Hayes CISD Performing Arts Center. This event is free and open to the public.
