MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – Heart attack and stroke survivors are invited to Warner Park Saturday with their friends and family for the Madison Heart Walk.

The annual family-friendly event aims to encourage the community to get active and promote good heart health, and to encourage people to raise money for lifesaving, organizers said. Participants can choose to walk the 1 or 3 mile route, or participate in the Fun Run.

The event is near and dear to executive chairwoman Dawn Mortimer, who lost her mother to a heart attack in August.

“13 years ago, my mom had a stroke because she didn’t pay attention and go to her doctor, check her glucose, blood pressure, and eventually she had a debilitating stroke that changed our whole life,” Mortimer said. .

She encourages the public to quit smoking, eat healthy, and be active, three traits according to the American Heart Association Major health conditions.

But really take action and be a part of a healthy future for yourself and your family because we never know, unfortunately it’s coming and it’s surprisingly that silent disease.
