JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ala. (WBRC) – Don’t be surprised if you get an invitation in the mail for a free health screening.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will soon be in Jefferson County to get a pulse on local health.
The agency does this through the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey.
CDC has been traveling across the country educating the public about the health of the American people since the 1960s, and this year, Jefferson County is one of 15 U.S. counties selected to participate.
Jefferson County Health Officer Dr. Mark Wilson said invitations will be mailed next week and addresses will be randomly selected throughout the county.
The first step is to answer two questions online.
Then, if you qualify, a telephone health interview, followed by a free and comprehensive health and nutrition assessment.
Dr. Wilson said participation is important because the information gathered in this survey will help guide decisions and allocate resources to keep our communities healthy.
“You know, in public health, we use data to make decisions about what’s important, how we’re going to use taxpayer dollars, and how we’re going to help improve the overall health of our community. Therefore, this information is very important for us. “You know, sometimes we’re challenged with having to make decisions without enough information, so we’ve found this very helpful, as has everyone else in the country,” said Dr. Wilson.
It is important to note that no medical care is provided with this program, but you will receive an explanation of the findings and a report of the physical findings.
Dr. Wilson wants you to double-check that the survey is from the National Institutes of Health and Nutrition Examination Survey before giving out any of your personal information, but says that all information collected in the survey is kept confidential.
