Geneva | May 23, 2023 – The Rockefeller Foundation and the World Health Organization (WHO) announced a new partnership to strengthen WHO Center for Epidemiology and Pandemic Intelligence. As part of the collaboration, the foundation is investing $5 million in partners working with the World Health Organization to identify pathogens and strengthen pandemic prevention capabilities, including surveillance for diseases exacerbated by rising temperatures and extreme weather.
In the year Established in 2021, WHO Epidemics and Epidemics Intelligence facilitates international collaboration of multidisciplinary partners to better access information, better analytical capabilities and better tools and insights for decision-making on future epidemics and pandemic risks. The partnership with the Rockefeller Foundation will accelerate these efforts through catalytic funding and technical assistance.

The Rockefeller Foundation supports projects coordinated by the WHO Hub for Epidemics and Epidemic Intelligence:
- Increasing global capacity for genomic surveillance On the newly launched side International pathogen surveillance network.
- Develop a digital platform In collaboration with data.orgReal-time communication and collaboration among public health analysts and researchers around the world to expand evidence-based field-tested epidemiologic tools.
- Developing user-centered product strategies Solutions for current WHO outbreak data to better support global health agencies.
- Improving the detection of epidemics Through Global.Health Data Science Initiative, in partnership with Oxford University and Boston Children’s Hospital, among others.

The Rockefeller Foundation launched its collaboration with the WHO Hub for Epidemiology and Epidemic Intelligence on 23 May 2023 alongside the 76.Th World Health Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland.
