MIAMI – Salud, formerly known as Salud Para Todos, is a family-owned and Latino-focused business founded 30 years ago by patriarch Dr. Rigo Perez Diaz.

The family They immigrated to the United States from the Dominican Republic in 1987, first to Florida, then to New York. New opportunities brought them here.

“He was in the Dominican Republic in the late 1980s. It was a shaky political regime. Everything was happening and he decided it was better to come here,” Diaz’s daughter, Sarah Perez Jarrett, said.

A naturopath and nutritionist, Dr. Diaz first opened a nutritional supplement store selling vitamins and health products. Then one day he had an epiphany.

“Then he quickly realized that he could create his own product and serve the community better, and that’s where Salud Para Todos was born,” explained his daughter.

What used to be a small, Latino-focused mail-order company is now a major player in the world of healthcare products, serving customers worldwide. That’s directly through Dr. Diaz’s two daughters, Sarah and Hilda.

After graduating college in 2009, Sarah started working at Sald and is now the company’s CEO. Her younger sister Hilda is the COO.

“Let’s talk about daddy’s little girls,” said CBS 4’s Lisa Petrillo. “Does it have to be something so warm and fuzzy to get the business to this level?”

“Absolutely,” Sarah said. “It was an honor to be respected and considered by him to be able to carry the torch forward.”

Most of the business stayed in New York until the Covid pandemic hit. They moved their office and everything to South Florida to save the employees’ jobs.

“We talked a lot and decided to bring all the supplements to the salon, and with my kids and husband, we were placing over 100 orders from my salon every day,” Sarah explained.

Petrillo asked the sisters how it feels to be “girl bosses” and to be supported by their Latina heritage.

“To me, that means we can inspire other girls, other women, other Latinas to take the education and know that they can grow,” Hilda Perez said.

“Especially as first-generation immigrants, we got here and expanded our businesses.”

The sisters strive to inspire the next generation of entrepreneurs with their weekly podcast Savvy Sector.

“We add our Hispanic heritage to it. We talk about how I’m running my cafe, but at the same time I’m looking at PNL worksheets,” Hilda said. “What does that look like? And we’re really sharing that knowledge. That’s something that’s really important to me because an entrepreneur and a female boss come in different forms.”

“It’s about the challenges we face every day as female business owners and how we overcome them,” Sarah said. “And for other Latina or Dominican, business owners to vote and let them know that it’s possible and that you’re not alone here.”

The sisters’ next step is to open a wellness center with an urban garden to teach healthy eating right here in South Florida.
