Last night, as my son and I watched the Brooklyn Nets climb to the top of the Eastern Conference with a win over the Los Angeles Lakers, I couldn’t help but marvel at how basketball has evolved into the fashion show it is today. Whether it’s larger-than-life branded sneakers, sweatpants, or tights tucked under players’ uniforms, Brooklyn Nets players like Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving and Seth Curry have a swagger that’s all their own, and they are. Setting the trends that determine the global road style.
But we all know basketball games are nothing without the beautiful front row. From Beyoncé and Jay-Z to Catherine, Princess of Wales, here are five of the best fashion moments from Brooklyn Nets games.
Beyonce and Jay-Z
In a pencil skirt, short-sleeved button-down and discreet shoulder bag, Beyoncé looks more like a takeaway mom than her alter-ego Sasha Fierce, but we love seeing her weeknight side. Paired with Jay-Z’s all-black look, white sneakers and a pendant, they’re every inch the Brooklyn power couple.
Once again, Rihanna kills it with a casual, “just throw this on” look, paired with perfect flawless makeup and perfect manicures.
The Prince and Princess of Wales.
Kate and William are every inch the future royals as they take part in a fun outing for royal fans. Kate keeps her conservative sensibility in a tweed jacket, while William goes full Brooklyn hipster in a plaid shirt that he might have bought at the Bonobos store down the street.
It’s never cool to ooze New York hipness in head-to-toe black looks from David Beckham and his pal.
Paul and Stella McCartney with Alasdair Willis and their son
A rock ‘n’ roll family descends on the Brooklyn Nets, complete with vegan leather, great hair and plenty for teenagers.
