CINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati health providers were awarded the key to the city earlier this month by providing medical care to Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin, a UC Medical Center spokeswoman said.
The ceremony was held at UC Medical Center on Thursday, where Hamlin has been recovering for a week after suffering a heart attack on the Jan. 2 field at Peycor Stadium in Cincinnati.
“The incredibly unique case of Damar Hamlin was noteworthy for being on national television, but not for the care he received,” Aftab Pureval said. “Every single person, whether they’re professional athletes or the person on the street, deserves the same exceptional first-class care. Thank you so much for your heroic work day and night.
Dozens of UC Medical Center physicians, nurses and clinical and non-clinical support staff joined Mayor Preval and Vice Mayor Jean-Michel Kearney for the event.
“The immediate impact of the care we provide is community awareness,” said UC Health Chief Operating Officer Robert Wiehe. Our teams are the best in the country as everyone can attest to in the past month.
UC Medical Center is the only adult Level I trauma center in the area.

Cincinnati Children’s Hospital also received $10,000 worth of toys from Fisher-Price and Mattel on Wednesday to support and care for Hamlin. According to our news partner WCPO in Cincinnati.
Included in the gift was a card saying “Thank you for taking such great care of Demar.”
Cincinnati Children’s Child Life Team said it will sort the toys and distribute them to children at the medical center, WCPO said.
Hamlin expressed gratitude for his care at UCMC on Jan. 8. On social media And he plans to donate proceeds from shirt sales to first responders and the UC Trauma Center.

The shirt features a picture of Hamlin’s hands making a heart and the words “Did we win?” It showed a quote. One of the first things Hamlin asked when he woke up from his coma was which hospital.
Hamlin continues to recover from a heart attack in Buffalo.
“Thank you for all the genuine love, thoughts and prayers from around the world,” Hamlin said He wrote on social media Tuesday. “They will all hear from me soon.”
