On March 17, 2023, this press release was updated to include states where Aldi Simply Nature has sold frozen organic strawberries.
Wonderful Fruit Company of Gresham, Oregon It is recalling frozen strawberries sold to Costco, Aldi, KHE, Critical Choice Seafood, PCCC Community Market and Trader Joe’s Frozen Organic Tropical Mix because of the hepatitis A outbreak.
Hepatitis A is an infectious liver disease caused by exposure to the hepatitis A virus, including through food. It can range from a mild illness lasting a few weeks to a severe illness lasting several months. In rare cases, especially in consumers with severe pre-existing conditions or compromised immune systems, hepatitis A infection can progress to liver failure.
The disease occurs 15 to 50 days after exposure and includes fatigue, abdominal pain, jaundice, abnormal liver function tests, dark urine and white stools. The hepatitis A vaccine prevents the disease within two weeks of exposure to contaminated food. People who have consumed the affected product should consult their health care professional or local health department to determine if vaccination is appropriate, and consumers with symptoms of hepatitis A should contact their health care professional or local health department immediately.

Although Hepatitis A is not found in this product, out of an abundance of caution, users should stop taking the product and return it to their local store for a refund. The company has stopped manufacturing and distributing the product while the FDA and the company continue to investigate the cause of the problem.
