BLACKBURG, Va. (WDJ) – There’s excitement around campus as students begin moving into their residence halls on Aug. 15, but Virginia Tech says there’s also excitement around construction projects underway on campus.
“If you visit Virginia Tech, you’ll see an unprecedented level of construction,” said university spokesman Mark Ouzarski.
He says that around 9 different construction projects are underway.
“We have a number of projects to support our data and decision science program, our computer science and computer engineering programs,” Owczarski said.
Other projects include areas such as dining and living halls.
“Really good indicators and good signs of Virginia Tech’s growth, the investment in the state that people have and the confidence that people have that Virginia Tech is going to serve the needs of the commonwealth,” Ouzarski said.
For college freshmen like Jacob Notary, the sights and sounds of construction aren’t a problem.
“Moving forward, that’s definitely a good thing to see,” he said.
With fresh hockey stones in place, Notary is excited to be a part of the future at Virginia Tech.
“Still building here makes me excited for the future,” he said. “There’s still so much more I can do to be a part of that by being here. It would be nice to see him.”
Due to some construction projects, Perry St. will be permanently closed and become part of the campus.
Virginia Tech said construction will not cause any road closures or detours once the entrance is complete.
