The Wharton School’s MBA program was ranked No. 1 in the consulting and finance specialization categories by QS Quacquarelli Symonds, an annual report that ranks international universities.

For the 2023 global full-time MBA program rankings, Wharton came in behind Stanford Graduate School of Business and Harvard Business School, which ranked first and second, respectively. Last year, Wharton and Harvard tied for the second time. In this year’s report, Wharton ranked 4th in data management, 18th in marketing and 10th in entrepreneurship.

QS, a British company that specializes in analyzing higher education institutions, analyzed international MBA programs in 47 countries using five data lenses, Employability as the primary measure. He also used the lenses of entrepreneurship and graduate outcomes, return on investment, thought leadership, and department and faculty diversity in his analysis.

Penn received the world’s highest score for thought leadership, an indicator of school reputation, research impact and percentage of faculty with doctorates.

According to a press release written by QS Communications Manager Will Barbieri, the United States dominates this year’s ranking of international business schools. Of the 300 programs ranked, 115 are American. Business schools in the US comprise five of the top 10 rankings and 40 of the top 100 rankings.

In addition to overall global business school rankings, QS also ranks top business schools based on seven MBA career specializations, including consulting, information management, operations management, finance, marketing, technology and entrepreneurship. The rankings are determined by a school’s achievement in three broad categories: professional classification, employer reputation and research strength.

QS published the first edition of the QS World University Rankings in 2004 and began ranking the world’s top MBA programs in 2015. The Wharton School was ranked second in 2021.
