Whittier Regional Vocational Technical High School is renovating or replacing its nearly 50-year-old campus in Haverhill.

The school recently retained JCJ Architecture to develop concepts for evaluation. Lynch and Whittier Tech School Committee members Richard Earley Jr. and Brett Murphy interviewed building facilities. Witter Tech Superintendent Maureen Lynch, a recent guest on WHAV’s morning show, said parents and families will have a chance to weigh in next week.

“Our building looks great because we’ve had tradesmen in the building helping us with repairs and renovations, but at this point we can’t do any more renovations until we get a sprinkler system in this building. So, we’re very open. It’s time to start thinking about the future of Whittier Tech,” she said. .

A parent evening will be held on Thursday, October 6, from 4-5 pm to discuss whether the school needs renovations, additions or a new building.

Lynch said Whittier Tech is working with the Massachusetts School Building Authority, which will decide whether to grant the project. More information is available online at BuildTheFutureOfWhittier.org.

Recently, the new Pentucket Regional Middle and High School held its official opening, partially funded by the state. As WHAV reported last week, Haverhill school officials have submitted a schematic plan to the authority for the new Dr. Albert B. Consentino School, which will serve about 1,080 students. The project is estimated to cost $160 million, with the state paying the top $70.5 million.
